Resumen de Un "modello di legno" à l'Academie de Saint-Luc de Rome: Sur les traces d'un atelier avant 1624

Rachel George

  • The discovery of an archive document sheds new light on a pre-1624 workshop at the Accademia di San Luca in Rome. To date, no document testifies to the presence of a workshop between the departure of Federico Zuccari in 1595 and the “reopening” under the presidency of Simon Vouet in 1624. However, the discovery of a payment for a life-sized wooden mannequin dated 1605 sheds light on this sparsely documented period. The proof collected demonstrates the utilization of this educational apparatus throughout the 17th century within the Roman academy and leads to a reconsideration of the influence of “ancient” techniques in the education of young artists in Rome with regard to drawing after a live model and studies after Antique sculpture.
