The confrontation between the representations of the Chateau of Ecouen by Jacques Androuet du Cerceau and the reality of the building demonstrates many differences. These discrepancies cannot be attributed to misinformation, but rather to the deliberate will to modify reality in order to bestow upon the building a greater symmetry and a higher degree of nobility. This is du Cerceau working as an artist, or as a poet, rather than as an objective architect.
