    El castro Chao Samartín es uno de los yacimientos castreños más interesantes del Norte Peninsular. Su primer asentamiento se remonta a la Edad del Bronce (IX. a.C) según los restos encontrados en la zona de la Acrópolis.Durante la Edad de Hierro se reforzaron sus defensas y las cabañas se extendieron por todo el promontorio encontrándose numerosos objetos de hierro que realizaban dentro del propio recinto amurallado.Con la llegada de los romanos al Norte Peninsular, el castro de Chao Samartín será ocupado al ser un lugar estratégico de primer orden debido a los depósitos auríferos existentes en el área suroccidental asturiana y el Bierzo leonés. La romanización  de este castro se evidencia claramente por la abundante cerámica sigillata encontrada así como los restos de una domus dentro del castro.

    The castro Samartín the Chao is one of the most interesting sites castreños in North Mainland. Their first settlement dates back to the Bronze Age (IX BC) as the remains found in the Acropolis area. These objects were a dagger grip antenna sheet iron and bronze, as well as an ax bead and brass rings.

    During the Iron Age, defenses were strengthened and extended the cabins around the headland gave predominantly iron objects that were made within the walls itself.

    With the arrival of the Romans to the peninsular north, castro Samartín Chao will be busy, being a prime strategic location due to existing gold deposits in the western area of Asturias and Leon Bierzo. Romanization of this fort is evidenced by the abundant sigillata pottery found and the remains of a domus in the castro own.

    In the second half of the second century AD, a devastating earthquake will ravage the Iron Age settlement which will cause rapid depopulation.
