    El olivo es un árbol muy conocido en todo el mundo debido a su antigüedad, extensión y fruto, del cuál se extrae el tan valorado �oro amarillo�, el aceite. Para entender mejor por qué es tan preciado, es fundamental, conocer la historia y situación actual del olivo, así como su cultivo, objetivo que el presente artículo pretende acercar al lector. Tanto el aceite de oliva como el olivo son elementos mencionados frecuentemente en la Biblia y poseen gran significado dentro de la religión cristiana. Se ha pensado que el olivo es como un símbolo de paz, desde que la paloma enviada del arca por Noé regresó. Ya desde la antigüedad, en la etimología popular, se ha unido la palabra griega elaion, aceite, con la palabra eleos, misericordia; con frecuencia, a través de la Biblia, el aceite se usa como símbolo del Espíritu Santo y de abundancia

    The olive tree is a well-known worldwide because of its age, growing extension and fruit, from which is extracted the much valued "yellow gold" oil. To better understand why it is so precious, it is essential to know the history and current status of the olive tree and its growth, objective that this article aims to bring the reader. Both olive oil and olive tree are elements mentioned often in the Bible and have great significance within the Christian religion. The olive tree has been thought as a symbol of peace, since the dove was sent by Noah and returned the ark. Since ancient times in folk etymology, it has joined the Greek word elaion, oil, with the word eleos, mercy, often through the Bible, oil is used as a symbol of the Holy Spirit and of abundance
