In 2014 we celebrate the 150th birth anniversary of Eugenio Ribera (1864- 1936), the greatest Spanish civil engineer and bridge builder on the first third of the 20th century, the man who introduced reinforced concrete technology in Spain. There's only one documented bridge by Rivera in the Madrid Community, the Reina Victoria bridge, over the Manzanares river, but we've just identified another one that in spite of being very special for him it doesn't show up as a bridge of his authorship in any official document, nor even in the bridge reinforcement project executed fifteen years ago. Such a work does not even come out in the Historical Bridges Inventory of the Madrid Community. We are talking about the bridge over the Perales river, in Aldea del Fresno, a five span reinforced concrete girder bridge, built near 1920, today supporting the secondary road M-510. This bridge looks just as Ribera designed an erected it, except for a little reinforcement placed fifteen years ago. It is, therefore, an historic bridge and a very important part of our civil works heritage, worth of maximum protection unfortunately absent at this moment. In this text we rediscover this forgotten bridge and review the reinforced concrete technology necessary for its erection, not very different from the one we have today, in the terms described by Ribera's reference work Masonry and reinforced concrete bridges.
