  Joaquín Sama fue miembro fundador y accionista de la Institución Libre de Enseñanza (ILE). Este artículo recoge parte de los aspectos más destacados de su vida profesional y personal. La ILE, su fundador Giner de los Ríos y sus colaboradores, como Joaquín Sama, tuvieron un papel fundamental en la revolución cultural y científica que vivió España a finales del siglo XIX y principios del XX, a pesar de haber dejado de ser una potencia mundial. Sama fue el director pedagógico de la ILE desde 1885 hasta su muerte en 1895, tiempos de mayor impulso de la Institución. La ILE incorpora la preocupación social de Sama, su firme convicción de llevar la enseñanza a la clase obrera y el campesinado, y de entender la enseñanza como la herramienta más eficaz para la libertad y la superación de la situación de miseria en la que vivían millones de personas. Pero las revoluciones de la intensidad como la que promovieron el grupo institucionalista deben mucho al tipo de relaciones humanes que había entre ellos. Para Joaquín Sama no solo la ILE, sino también la amistad con Giner de los Ríos y los Machado fueron pilares en su vida que marcaron su trayectoria.

  Joaquin Sama was a founding member and shareholder of the Institución Libre de Enseñanza (ILE). This article presents part of the most relevant aspects of his professional and personal life. The ILE, founder Giner de los Ríos and his collaborators, such as Joaquin Sama, played a fundamental role in the cultural and scientific revolution that Spain lived in the late 19th and early 20th century, despite having ceased to be a global power. Sama was the educational director of the ILE from 1885 until his death in 1895, at a time in which the institution had the greatest drive. The ILE incorporates the social concern of Sama, and his firm conviction about bringing education to the working class and the peasantry, and his understanding that education is the most effective tool for freedom and overcoming the situation of poverty in which millions of people lived. But the revolutions with the intensity like the one promoted by the institutionalists group are due to the the human relationships between them. For Joaquin Sama not only the ILE, but also the friendship with Giner de los Ríos and Machado family were pillars in his life that shaped his career.
