Ruiz de Montoya y su mirada pre-científica del Paraguay

    Se analiza la obra del jesuita Antonio Ruiz de Montoya, como misionero, etnógrafo y lingüista en las reducciones guaraníes del Paraguay, enfatizando su interés en la naturaleza americana durante el Siglo XVII. Se destaca además, la explicación proporcionada por Ruiz de Montoya en cuanto a la apropiación cognitiva de los nativos y las categorías vernáculas de los mismos, como forma de comprensión de la realidad y de su entorno social y natural americano. Lo anterior, como elemento percibido y rescatado por el autor, para dejar atrás la violencia y la supuesta superioridad del proceso epistémico europeo, que en este hito evolutivo de los siglos XVI y XVII, se caracteriza por un desconocimiento de la alteridad.

    The importance of the works of the Jesuit Antonio Ruiz de Montoya, as a missionary, ethnographer and linguist in the reducciones of the Paraguay province, is presented in this essay with an emphasis in his interest in the American nature, during the seventeenth century. It is outlined, also, the explanation provided by Ruiz de Montoya for the cognitive appropriation of the natives and their vernacular categories, as a form of comprehension of the reality and of their American social and natural environment. This, as an element perceived and rescued by the author, to leave behind the violence and the supposed superiority of the European epistemic process, characterized in this evolutionary milestone of the XVIth and XVIIth century, by an ignorance of the other.
