La imagen de san Francisco del retablo mayor del convento compostelano de Val de Dios y otras nuevas atribuciones a José Ferreiro (1738-1830): señas de identidad y estilo

    La atribución de la imagen del patrón en el retablo mayor del convento de San Francisco de San tiago de Compostela es el pretexto para estudiar el estilo y la evolución estilística del principal estatuario gallego del último tercio del siglo XVIII: José Ferreiro en los años que compartió taller con su maestro y suegro José Gambino -que son los menos conocidos del escultor- gracias a la reutilización que hace del mismo tipo iconográfico en las imágines inéditas de san Francisco de las actuales iglesias parroquiales de Ortigueira y Cambados. Por otra parte, la atribución a Ferreiro de las esculturas de san Francisco y san Diego de Alcalá de santa Marta de Babío y la de San Francisco de la VOT de A Coruña, añade nuevas obras al catálogo del escultor y permiten analizar estilística mente su imaginería en sus últimos años como vecino de Santiago

    The attribution of the patron's image placed in the main altarpiece of the convent of Saint Francis in Santiago de Compostela is the pretext to study the style and the stylistic evolution of the princi pal Galician sculptor of the last third of the XVIIIth century, José Ferreiro, throughout those years that he shared the workshop with his teacher and father-in-law José Gambino -the less known of the master- and thanks to the reuse of the very same iconographic type in the unpublished images of Saint Francis located in the current parish churches of Ortigueira and Cambados. On the other hand, the attribution to Ferreiro of the sculptures of Saint Francis and Saint Diego de Alcalá from Santa Marta de Babío, and that of Saint Francis from the VOT of A Coruña adds new works to the sculptor's catalogue and allows to analyze stylistically the imagery that he produced during his last years residing in Santiago.
