Resumen de Nuevas vertientes conceptuales y epistémicas en el campo de las terapias conductuales-cognoscitivas

Alfonso Martínez Taboas

  • In the last decade, the cognitive-behavioral approach has made notable and important advances in the treatment and conceptualizations of a diverse array of psychopathologies. Nevertheless, some colleagues haven´t shown any appreciable interest or curiosity in this psychological approach. One of the principal obstacles to the acceptance of this orientation is that some insist that this type of approach is "simplistic", "lineal" and that it minimizes the cognitive realm. in this paper, I demonstrate that such criticism are off the mark and erroneous. In fact, a vast amount of recent work in the field has to do with pinpointing the cognitive mechanisms that mediate the human experience. Finally, I propose that it is time that we desist in attempting to associate the cognitive-behavioral approach with the already dead "positivistic science". Instead, I suggest that the writings of C. Bas Van Fraasen, a noted philosopher of science, should be required reading for a proper comprehension of this field. His alternativa theory of constructive empiricism place the work of the cognitive-behavioral practitioner in a respected perspective and in accord with recent developments in epistemology and the philosophy of science.
