The premature termination of psychotherapy for emotional disorders is one of the problems that faces the area of psychotherapy. This study identifies the variables associated with premature termination of psychotherapy in adolescents with depressive symptomatology in order to provide better service and to prevent future complications. The sample consisted of 18 girls and 12 boys between the ages of 13 and 18. Nineteen of the participants completed the course of treatment, 11 adolescents dropped out. the instrument used in this study were a demographic information sheet, the Children´s Depression Inventory (CDI), and a structured interview about the variables associated with premature termination of psychotherapy. The results show that transportation problems, dislike of therapy, and the interference of other activities with therapeutic appointments were the variables associated with the premature termination of psychotherapy. clinical implications of these findings are discussed.
