¿Porqué hay hombres que no aman? La respuesta es: porque el amor pone en juego para el hombre lo más difícil para él: el ser. Sostenerse en la dirección del ser como apertura reclama la capacidad de renovar el deseo, es decir, de hacer renacer la carencia. Así las cosas, ¿puede una pasión humana como el amor desenvolverse y realizarse al interior de una institución social como el matrimonio?, sin duda que no, porque el matrimonio es llenura y saciedad, tal como lo garantiza la propiedad privada que cada cónyuge ejerce sobre su par. De ahí que el tratamiento del deseo según los imperativos del deber impuesto por la institución matrimonial, configure esa perseverante violencia contra el ser que constituyen la aburrición, la irritación y la rutina no significativa, al tiempo que produce un individuo ordenado y que ha olvidado el amor y en general el deseo, es decir, que asume la vida de espalda al ser.

Why are there men who do not love? The answer is because love has at stake what is most difficult for man: being. To sustain oneself in the movement towards being as opening requires the capacity to renew desire, that is, to make lack be born again. If this is so, can a human passion such as love unfold and fulfill itself within the social institution of marriage? Doubtlessly not, since marriage is surfeit and satiety, guaranteed by the private property that each spouse exerts over his or her mate. It thus follows that the treatment of desire according to the imperatives of duty imposed by the institution of marriage forms that persistent violence against being which bear the names of boredom, irritation and meaningless routine, while at the same time it produces an obedient individual who has forgotten love and in general desire, that is to say, who lives life turning his back on being.
