This work is the result of a research project and consists of a strategy that can contribute to students' mathematical training in the career of financial engineering and the Bachelor's degree in international trade and customs from the "Universidad Politécnica del Golfo de México, (UPGM)". This research project is based on a contextualized problem solving learning and it makes use of a mathematical modeling and computer packages as a method to improve the teaching and learning processes of mathematics at UPGM.
In the execution of the research methods the theoretical and empirical approached of scientific knowledge are combined. it was confirmed the existence of a problem in the teaching - learning process of the above mentioned careers.
The methodological design is aimed at the design stage and consists of five activities and at the same time this activities consist of operations, which help to guide the activity to be performed by the teacher to design the teaching - learning process of subjects in the area of mathematics.
