Today, education favors learning with understanding rather than rote. Thus, teachers need to design courses that promote meaningful learning. This paper will elaborate a proposal for designing a meaningful learning environment for the subject of Systems of Linear Equations, based on the Guide to Designing Courses that Promote Meaningful Learning (Fink, 2003).
This guide is an integrated model that aligns the goals of learning, assessment and teaching and learning activities. It has three phases: initial, where learning goals, assessment, teaching and learning activities are discussed; intermediate, where the course structure and the instructional strategy is developed; end, where we reflect on how you are going to qualify, what could go wrong, the course syllabus, and to improve the course.
The guide will provide the teacher becomes designer environments that promote meaningful learning. With this design, the teacher reflects first, what are the learning goals?, Then, how do you assess these objectives are met?, And finally, what teaching and learning activities that succeed in the learning objectives are met?
