Writen for a speech, the article allustrates the history of the construction of eastern part of the Cathedral of Siena, which took place between the late twelfth century and the seventh decade of the fourteenth century, in three consecutive phases. Document dating back to 1259 and 1260, known since 1854 thanks to the publication of Gaetano Milanesi are at the center of the discussion. The author proposes to evaluate these documents in order to explain the abandonment of a previous project. The article shows the different stages of construction in detail and the different versions that have emerged over the years.
