Toxoplasma gondii is an intracellular protozoan parasite of warm-blooded vertebrates and which has a worldwide distribution.
The objective of this study was to determine the prevalence of this disease in pregnant women aged 15 to 45 years old in the municipality of San Lucas, Department of Chuquisaca. For this purpose technique of indirect serology (indirect hemagglutination) was used. The results identified a prevalence of 32.9% in 167 pregnant women attending in consultation with the San Lucas Hospital.
The highest prevalence (36.4%) is in the age group 15 - 25.
