    • Syphilis is an infectious sexually transmitted disease, with asymptomatic periods caused by the spirochete Treponema pallidum. This disease may be acute or chronic and whose causal agent is Treponema pallidum Spiroqueta. It is characterized from the onset of the disease is a systemic commitment in clinical manifestations. Its most common form of transmission is through sexual contact and unlike other STDs is not diagnosed by the isolation and identification of the causative germ, but primarily through clinical, serology and epidemiology.

      The research aims to determine the prevalence of syphilis in pregnant women aged 15-45 years attending the Maternity Hospital "Poconas" using RPR serological test.
