  • Toxoplasmosis is a highly prevalent disease in the world. When it is acquired for the first time in pregnancy it can cause serious damage to the fetus, the impact on the child can be as diverse as hydrocephalus or microcephaly , cerebral clacificaciones , chorioretinitis, or end up in an abortion , depending on the quarter in which the mother became infected ; the infection may be acquired in various ways, mainly through oral or cysts excreted by the cat or tissue cysts in undercooked meat , poorly washed vegetables , direct contact with soil and animals (cats , dogs, pigs , pigeons , coyotes ) . Other factors that could influence people to contract the disease is the low socioeconomic level, the fact of living in rural areas or suburbs and perform occupations involving contact with the ground.

    The present study aimed to determine the seroprevalence of toxoplasmosis in pregnant women who attended the Santa Barbara Hospital Laboratory during the months of January to September 2007 management
