Resumen de Carlota's Eternal Present: Noticias del Imperio

Brian T. Chandler

  • This article examines the concepts of history and temporality in Fernando del Paso¿s novel Noticias del imperio. In particular, by analyzing the temporal aspects of the narration of the monologue by the protagonist Carlota of Mexico, the author demonstrates how the novel highlights the processes through which the past is constantly being reexamined, rewritten, and remembered in the present. Furthermore, Carlota¿s narration serves as an example of how temporality as personally experienced makes subordinate the conventions of chronological time and historical knowledge.
