This article gives a biographic account of Mar -quesa, countess of Empúries and viscountess of Cabrera, a powerful figure in the history of the county of whom very little was previously known. From archival sources, mostly unpub- lished, Martínez Giralt can provide an outline of her early life as well as stressing her political role in the county of Empúries as a dowager countess and as the ruler of her own lands in Cabrera
