  • Resumen
    • Staphylococcusaureus expressing 5 and 8 exopolysaccharides are considered the most virulent and frequent in dairycow´s mastitis. To determine their distibution in Toluca Valley, 322 milk samples were taken from 23 family dairy herds in the following municipalities: Almoloya de Juárez, Lerma, Temoaya, Toluca and Zinacantepec. Staphylococcusaureus isolation and identification were undertaken using rutine bacteriological procedures. Capsular expression was obtained in Columbia agarand capsule identified using Hissstain. Capsular type was determined in soft agar supplemented with milkwhey. Capsular serotypes 5 and 8 were identified using platesero agglutination. cap5 and cap8 gene expression was confirmed by PCR.

The identification of capsular S. aureusserotypes 5 and 8 in dairy family herds in municipalities from Toluca Valley may have clinical significance in persistent infection of the mammary gland in cows as well as representing a major risk for public health.
