    El objeto de esta investigación es el líder bereber emeritense del siglo IX Mahmud. Nuestra intención es intentar esclarecer la imagen que ofrece la crónica de Ibn Hayyan sobre este personaje y especialmente durante sus últimos momentos de vida. Para ello estudiaremos con detenimiento las menciones y apariciones del personaje en la Crónica teniendo en cuenta el tiempo y el espacio que rodeó al autor de la misma y las contrastaremos con otras fuentes y estudios monográficos para ir perfilando la imagen y los rasgos que se vertieron sobre dicho personaje según los acontecimientos que protagonizó. Para obtener de esta manera como conclusión o resultado la importancia que rodeó a este rebelde en la creación del imaginario medieval de los distintos pueblos, tanto islámicos como cristianos y la serie de imágenes diferentes que ofrece según el momento que llegarían a convertirse en verdaderas metáforas de las relaciones entre los distintos pueblos

    The target of this article is the bereber Mahmud, leader of Mérida in the IX century. Our intention is to know the imagen of Mahmud in the Ibn Hayyan´s chronicles Muqtabis and specially in the last moments in his life. For this study we will read carefully the chronicle and will contrast it with other studies and monographs about the subject. We will consider the time and space that surrounded the writer of the chronicle. We get well the image of the bereber rebel through the chronicle and the muslim´s historiography. Mahmud imagen, that is offered by Ibn Hayyan, is complex, full of nuances and it serves a purpose. The Mahmud´s image purpose, in the Ibn Hayyan´s chronicle, is to serve a certain order and keep it. The image varies according to Mahmud´s events in the chronicle and all the variations serve a purpose
