Senecio confusus infusion is used in traditional medicine for the treatment of strokes and muscle aches. However, there has been studied the effect of this plant in the control of inflammation, in this study the antiinflammatory ability of this specie was assessed in a mouse model of inflammation induced by carrageenin. Two doses (5 and 10 mg/kg) of the aqueous extract of S. confusus were tested, water and indomethacin were used as controls. For this experiment, Wistar rats were used and swelling measurements were performed with a digital plethysmometer. The percent inhibition observed shows that the dose 10 mg/kg had greater antiinflammatory activity in the first hour, whereas the dose of 5 mg/kg had a higher anti-inflammatory activity. However, these doses show less effect of the obtained by indomethacin treatment. However observing the digestive tissue of animals after treatment, greater damage was observed in rats treated with indomethacin. So although the S. confusus extract showed less antiinflamatory effect at the doses used , causes less damage to the organism.
