  • Resumen
    • Obesity is a risk factor for the development of several diseases such as hypertension, metabolic syndrome, diabetes mellitus type 1 and 2, cardiovascular diseases, among others. In Mexico, this deseases are very common and information about the polymorphisms in genes encoding proteins involved in lipid metabolism is poor. The aim of the study was to determine the frequency and analyze the distribution of Q223R polymorphism in the gene for leptin receptor LEPR. Q223R has been associated with obesity, diabetes mellitus and cancer. 102 unrelated individuals from Sinaloa state were studied. Genotyping was performed by restriction fragment length polymorphism (RFLP) and genotype frequencies were obtained: AA (0.4059), AG (0.4852) and GG (0.1089) Allele frequencies for A (0.6485) and G (0.3515) were also determined.
