  • Resumen
    • Retrospective study performed in a tertiary hospital between January and December 2013. The aim is to make known the current demand of fortified antibiotic eye drops in a tertiary hospital and to analyze the terms of use of vancomycin 50 mg/ml eye drops. All eye drops produced during the year are reviewed. Patients having taken the vancomycin 50 mg/ml eye drops were selected and studied. 144 eye drops were prepared and those containing ceftazidime and vancomycin were the most demanded. The latter was taken by forty-one patients whose most common diagnosis was bacterial keratitis (58.59%) and endophthalmitis (21.95%). Two patients have received targeted therapies but they were empirical in the rest of the cases. There are no conclusive data published showing clear guidelines of use for fortified antibiotic drops. Therefore, further research in this field is needed
