    • The objective of this research was to determine the effect of the hygro - thermal fatigue treatment in the density, modulus of elasticity and modulus of rupture in static bending of wood of Pinus douglasiana and Quercus spp. The experimental strategy consisted in submitting the wood to five periods of drying and hydrated under controlled conditions.

      The treatment consisted in drying standard specimens of 20 mm x 20 mm in cross section and 320 mm in length, for 24 hours at a temperature of 103 ° C until reaching constant weight. For each cycle, and after measuring the weight and dimensions of each of the specimens, it was proceeded to rehumidify for a period of 48 hours at a laboratory ambient temperature of 23 ° C. After the hygro - fatigue treatment, static bending tests were conducted with the two groups of specimens: untreated and treated. For both species in study, wood density was not altered by treatment. In contrast, the test results of the mean arithmetic differences between the groups of specimens with treatment and without treatment, for wood of P. douglasiana and Quercus spp. indicated that, for the moduli of elasticity and modulus of rupture there are statistically significant differences with a confidence level of 95 %. That is, the treatment decreased the average values of both parameters. Furthermore, for both species, the treated wood showed less ductility to reach the rupture, compared to untreated wood.
