  • In surgery and specifically laparoscopic surgery, the continuing training is crucial for a quality surgery . Unfortunately , in medical schools practicing laparoscopic surgery is not yet established before the student graduates. The practice is often done in the operating room under the supervision of an experienced surgeon . In this paper, we show the design and construction of trainers for laparoscopic surgery that are to be donated to local hospitals to contribute to improve their training programs. Materials and methods. The laparoscopic trainers were designed and assembled with adjustable viewing optics with maniquies made of fiberglass.

We place three input ports on the lower part to allow access to instrumental . The laparoscope was simulated with a mini color camera of 380 lines of resolution, and a flat screen television of 32 was used as a video monitor for visual feedback. We designed a simple mechanism to allow adjustment of the optical vision. Settings. The work was done in collaboration with members of the academic group Applied Robotics and students of Electronics and Mechatronic Engineering at the facilities of the Technological Institute of Nuevo Laredo and students of the Technological University of Nuevo Laredo. Results . Ten trainers with video monitor and a model for the practice of transfer task according the MISTELs protocol were designed and assembled .

Expert surgeons from UMF 78 IMSS hospital and Specialty Hospital of Nuevo Laredo Tamaulipas performed satisfactory tests to the system. The first donations were conducted for improving training programs of these institutions.
