El mocase: orígenes, consolidación, y fractura del movimiento campesino de Santiago del Estero

    La mayor parte de la población rural de Santiago del Estero reside en tierras que fueron abandonadas por la industria forestal que se desarrolló en esa provincia argentina hasta la década de 1960. Sobre todo hacia fines de la década del "90 y principios del 2000, esas tierras, hasta entonces marginales, se volvieron codiciables para el cultivo de soja. Esto generó focos de conflicto entre los capitalistas interesados en ellas y la población rural que allí residía. Las familias afectadas se nuclearon en distintas organizaciones que dieron origen al MOCASE. En este artículo reconstruyo la historia de este movimiento a partir de bibliografía existente y de entrevistas en profundidad. Observo sus antecedentes y la influencia que han tenido en su estructuración intelectuales ajenos al sujeto directamente afectado, algunos de origen urbano, vinculados especialmente a la Iglesia Católica.

    The majority of the rural population of Santiago del Estero resides on lands that were abandoned by the lumber industry, which developed in that Argentine province until the 1960s. Especially toward the end of the 1990s and the start of the 2000s, those lands, which until then were unimportant, became desirable for the cultivation of soy. This generated points of conflict between the capitalists interested in the land and the rural population that resided there. The affected families grouped themselves into different organizations, which gave rise to the MOCASE. In this article, using the extant literature and in-depth interviews, I trace the history of this movement. I note the antecedents of the MOCASE and how intellectuals removed from the directly affected subject, some of whom were urban, and especially those linked with the Catholic Church, influenced the structuring of the MOCASE.
