Resumen de O esforço de interiorização do país e a construção de Goiânia

This paper reviews the motivation and the characters involved in the process of building a new capital for the State of Goiás, moving it from old Vila Boa to new built Goiânia. Several reasons for the building of the new city, from the standpoint of urban planning, have been investigated, each one of them proposed in different periods. A brief account on urban planning in Colonial Brazil enlightens the primary motivation and efforts for the occupation of the vast brazilian hinterland, a process in which the construction of towns had a central importance, and to which Goiania owes its life.

Este trabalho propõe a revisão das motivações e dos personagens atuantes no processo da mudança da capital de Goiás, de Vila Boa para Goiânia. Levantam-se diversas motivações para a mudança, dadas em diferentes momentos, com ênfase no enfoque urbanístico. Faz-se ainda um breve histórico do planejamento da localização de cidades ainda no Brasil-Colônia, buscando ainda naquele período as primeiras preocupações para a interiorização do País e para a construção de cidades nos grandes vazios do novo território.
