    This article is about the indigenous authorities in the luso brazilian society. It aims at reviewing the representations and images that contribute to justify the colonization in order to recognize the elements that shaped the indigenous condition and rights. Thus, its intention is to understand in which contexts the indigenous authorities and institutions were recognized in the luso brazilian society. In this way, the questions I wish to explore intend to review the agreements and accords, the intersection between the colonial and the native interests and, specially, how these relations were legally made possible.

    Este artigo analisa as autoridades indígenas na sociedade luso-brasileira, tendo por objetivo evidenciar nas representações e imagens construídas para justificar a ação colonizadora os elementos que subsidiaram, juridicamente, a conformação dos direitos e da condição indígena. Assim, pretende-se melhor situar em quais âmbitos e contextos as autoridades e instituições indígenas foram reconhecidas dentro do panorama social luso-brasileiro. Neste sentido, a abordagem explora as alianças e os acordos, a intersecção entre os interesses colonial e nativo e, principalmente, como foi possível, juridicamente, dar vazão a estas relações.
