    In Piauí and Maranhão Territories, competing with the Portuguese,fi rms of England and Frence had repeated tha same British and French methodsand processes employed in their colonies, including stimulating the sea and inlandwaterway transport of goods. Th e performance of these companies approached thePiauí, rural and extractive, to others continents, especially Europe in the process ofindustrialization, which brought as a result, changes in patterns economic, socialand cultural rights in the region.

    No Piauí e no Maranhão, competindo com os portugueses, encontraramsefi rmas britânicas e francesas que repetiram métodos e processos empregadosem suas colônias, inclusive estimulando o transporte marítimo e fl uvial de mercadorias.A atuação dessas empresas aproximou o Piauí, rural e extrativista, deoutros continentes, principalmente da Europa em processo de industrialização,o que trouxe como consequência, mudanças dos padrões econômicos, sociais eculturais da região.
