The aim of the article was to reconstruct the history of the Archdiocese of Goiânia and the Military Government from 1968 to 1985. The sources were Revista da Arquidiocese, writen by Dom Fernando, Church documents and the newspaper Folha de Goiaz. The Archidiocese of Goiânia had chosen an "eclesial" project based on fight for justice, and the defense of the Human Rights and its participation in the popular movements. This project had generated, on the one hand, the conflict betwen the Church and the Military Government, but on the other hand, it had opened a space for the politicizing in the midst of the institution.

O artigo teve como objetivo reconstituir a história das relações entre a Arquidiocese de Goiânia e o regime militar, no período de 1968 a 1985. As fontes foram: a Revista da Arquidiocese, escritos de Dom Fernando, Documentos da Igreja e o jornal Folha de Goiaz. A Arquidiocese de Goiânia optou por um projeto eclesial baseado na luta pela justiça, na defesa dos direitos humanos e pela inserção nos movimentos populares. Isto foi um ponto de controvérsias. Acirrou o conflito com o regime militar e abriu um espaço para a politização no interior da instituição.
