This text suggets that a drawing found among the anonymous Italian works in the Louvre should be attributed to Bernini. It is the first design for the Adoration of the Name of Jesus, which proves Bernini’s vital contribution to the fresco executed by Gaulli for the ceiling of the nave in the Gesù in Rome. The drawing increases the importance of Bernini’s role in this church, as until now only drawings for the dome had come down to us, which Gaulli also frescoed. Regarding the ceiling, the author also discusses a well-known drawing by Maratti in Düsseldorf, and two drawings by Ludovico Gimignani, which show that these painters were also engaged in this commission.
