La audición es uno de los sentidos especiales más importantes para la comunicación humana y animal y para el desarrollo del lenguaje y la socialización. El oído es el órgano especializado en tomar las ondas sonoras, transmitirlas hacia el órgano sensorial y traducirla en señales eléctricas que puedan ser analizadas e integradas en el sistema nervioso central. La presente revisión describe los principales mecanismos biofísicos utilizados por este órgano y sus estructuras para realizar esta tarea.

Hearing is one of the special senses more important to the human and animal communication and the developing of language and socialization. The ear is the organ that is specialized in capture the sound waves, conducting them to the sensorial organ and translating them in electrical signals that can be analyzed and integrated in the central nervous system. The present review describes the principal biophysical mechanisms used by this organ and its structures to make this task.
