The Miocene deposits that constitute the Lower and Intermediate Units along the left bank of the Henares River in the Madrid Basin are studied in this paper. The cartographic limit between both units is reviewed and a sedimentary-tectonic relation of these materials with the NW margin of the Madrid Basin is proposed. With this aim, a detailed geological mapping and a stratigraphic analysis were carried out. In addition, four stratigraphic seccessions and two synthetic section were measured in order to establish a correlation of the sedimentary discontinuity between this units. The available data indicate that along the valley this boundary is defined by a change in the evolution of the sequence, whereas in the NW sector of the studied margin the limit is marked by an angular discordance between in the Lower and the Intermediate Units. Thus, the onlap deduced by means of the geological mapping between the Intermediate Unit and the Paleogene materials would represent a decrease in the tectonic activity, which would imply that, in this specific area of the basin, the initiation of the Intermediate Unit sedimentation would not be caused by tectonic reactivation.
