    This paper focuses on a particular case of oceanic travels that developed during the Renaissance, in the moment when European circulation in the world expanded toward the entire globe. It aims at analyzing the missionary travel and travelers, after the new papal poli- cy elaborated in the framework of the Council of Trent, and in relation with the long-distance networks shaped by the two Iberian empires. It is mostly focused on the travel to China, and the contribution to the European knowledge production about the world shaped by the catholic missionaries as travelers in the Ming Empire.

    Dans le cadre du grand mouvement de circulation des hommes qui a accompagné l’expansion du monde connu aux quatre continents, les voyages au long cours ont été prati- qués par un ensemble de plus en plus diversifié d’acteurs. Cet article s’arrête sur les mission- naires de la catholicité post-tridentine, et en particulier la Compagnie de Jésus, dont il analy- se les modalités propres de l’engagement dans le programme missionnaire post-tridentin, porté par la papauté et appuyé sur les réseaux des empires ibériques. Il s’attache en particu- lier au voyage de la Chine et à la manière dont celui-ci a transformé la grammaire européen- ne des savoirs sur le monde.
