  • Resumen
    • Subdivision into genetic stratigraphic units and geostatistical methods were applied to reconstruct facies distribution in a fine-grain dominated alluvial fan. This alluvial fan is cenozoic in age, have a radius of 2 km, and has been sampled by a large number of continuously cored and regularly distributed wells. The size and dimensions of a number of laterally extensive sand bodies deposited within this alluvial fan were quantified for different evolutionary stages. This quantification provided evolutionary trends and scenarios to models aquifer systems in other similar depositional systems. Capturing parameters describing facies distribution in well-known setting, and using these to model facies distribution in the subsurface is a useful approach to evaluate and reduce uncertainties in subsurface management. In order to demostrate the feasibility of such approach, a facies modelling exercise was carried out conditioned by the parameters extracted from the studied alluvial fan. The resultant hypothetical models were used to derive estimations related to the connected sand volumes to a hypothetical well.
