Se evaluó la actividad antioxidante de hojas y corteza de Bauhinia Kalbreyeri, estableciendo su capacidad para atrapar radicales libre, peróxido de hidrógeno y quelar metales. Adicionalmente, el estudio evaluó el contenido fenólico y de flavonoides totales en un intento por correlacionar la bioactividad, la presencia de estos metabolitos y el uso etnofarmacológico observado en las etnias tolimenses en el tratamiento de la diabetes. Se encontró dependencia entre la bioactividad y el contenido de fenoles y de flavonoides, lo cual parece confirmar el conocimiento etnofarmacológico.

The antioxidant activity of leaves and bark from Bauhinia kalbreyeri was evaluated detecting their free radical and hydrogen peroxide scavenging capacity as well as their capacity to chelate metals. Additionally, the study evaluated the total phenolic and flavonoids content, in an attempt to correlate bioactivity, presence of these metabolites and the ethno-pharmacological use observed in tolimense ethnia for the treatment of diabetes. A dependence between bioactivity and the phenolic and flavonoids content was found, which seems to confirm the ethno-pharmacological knowledge.
