  • This study aimed to analyze the meanings of domestic violence against women through women in care at Reference Centers. The participants were composed by 10 women, between 27 and 67 years. We used a semi-structured interview. The data went through a thematic content analysis in the light of socio-historical psychology. Three axis and eight sub-axis were defined: Conceptions of domestic violence: physical assault with 23.7%, moral harassment with 25.8%; bondage/imprisonment with 10.4%. Difficulties: involvement of third parties with 12.0%; delay of legal procedures with 5.2%; want to overcome violence, but do not know how with 5.2%. Change perspective: denial of violence with 7.3%; protagonism in daily life with 10.4%. The research group gives meaning to domestic violence against women in a moment of their lives, in which they are physically and mentally abused, nevertheless, they also experience a desire for change.
