La fiebre amarilla es una enfermedad infecciosa, causada por un virus del género Flavivirus y familia Flaviviridae, el cual se transmite por la picadura de mosquitos. Existe un ciclo selvático, en el cual el virus se transmite de mono a mono por la picadura de un mosquito infectado, el género Haemagogus es el vector principal en América y Aedes en África.
