Trying to describe big trends in the contemporary cultural panorama, we could identify a quite conscious process of weakening that affects many views of tha achievements and capacities of human progress, and a more discrete, almost humble, assumption of what can be do and of human and social limits. Inside this framework, sciences and religious crisis could be understood as expressions of new cultural trends, together with what has been described by Charles Taylor and his A Secular Age. This new framework should help to better contextualize the Franciscan contribution to our time.
