  • The working wages for magicians are also a point of contention, and a magician who undercuts the rates of his or her peers can drastically influence whether or not other magicians will make ends meet at the end of a month. overall, this ethnography is a fascinating account of a community of experts devoted to making the world a better and more enchanted place through magic tricks. i recommend this book widely, and it should be of particular interest to scholars in folklore, anthropology, performance studies, and French studies. it would serve as a perfect ethnography for any introduction to anthropology course as well as advanced courses in linguistic anthropology or performance studies.
