For reasons partly related to the syntactic basis of the compound word formation the name of Dionysos must mean 'son of Zeus'. The analysis of the mythological onomastics makes it possible to conjecture that the second part of the name (nisos) is a Thracian equivalent of Greek 'coros' 'boy, adolescent'. These words are likely to have similar meanings and etymologies.
