Los metales celulares-MC (espumas y esponjas), dada su especial estructura y extremada ligereza se han convertido en un tópico de gran interés en la investigación sobre nuevos materiales a nivel mundial. La combinación de sus propiedades físicas, mecánicas y morfológicas permiten que estos materiales tengan un enorme potencial de aplicación en diversos sectores industriales.
En este trabajo se reporta una ruta viable y económica aplicada conjuntamente entre el IIM-UNAM y el GINUMA-UPB, para obtener esponjas de aluminio a bajos costos y con buenas propiedades mecánicas. De esta manera, se espera contribuir al desarrollo de dicha temática en el ámbito Latinoamericano.

Due to the special structure and extreme light weight, cellular metals (foams and sponges) have become of great interesting in new materials researching in the whole world. Physical, mechanical and morphological properties allow these materials to have a great potential of application in several industrial sectors.
A viable and economical route, being applied by IIM-UNAM and GINUMAUPB, to obtain aluminum sponges at low costs with good mechanical properties is reported in this paper, which is expected to contribute with the development of this thematic in Latinamerica.
