Service-Learning: students' transformative journey from communication Student to Civic-Minded professional

    • This essay chroniches the service-learning journey of 12 students who conducted communication audits for non-profit community agencies. Using knowledge of communication theory and multiple data-gathering and analysis methods, students asseed communication clarity and efficiency within the community agencies. Students reported gaining richer understanding of organizational communication concepts and greater confidence in their communication skills than they prossed previously. Students said that these experiencies raised their awareness of community needs, helping them develop more realistic attitudes about community involvement and demostrating for them the importance of assuming community leadeship roles. Representatives from community agencies reported high levels of satisfaction with the projects
