  • Resumen
    • The limitations of conventional dilation procedures with topical mydriatics for cataract surgery in patients with small pupils have increased the routine use of iris retractors, which are associated with complications and a higher cost. Our Ophthalmology Department asked the Pharmacy Department to include intracameral 1.5% phenylephrine (magistral formula) in pharmacotherapy guidelines as an additional mydriatic option for phacoemulsification procedures. We reviewed recent scientific evidence in this field in order to evaluate intracameral phenylephrine as a mydriatic option for the pharmacological management of miosis in cataract surgery. The conclusion of the review is that intracameral 1.5% phenylephrine is a suitable agent for use in this sub-population
