  • Resumen
    • Introduction: Concern about controlling postoperative pain coupled with the rapidly expanding arsenal of therapeutic drugs justifies the creation of multidisciplinary acute pain units with their own pharmacist. Method: A bibliographic search was carried out in Medline with key words concerning Acute Postoperative Pain, Pharmacist and Acute Pain Units, and Implementation and Management of Acute Pain Units in order to gather information about setting up such a unit in our hospital. Results: Establishment of an Acute Postoperative Pain Unit: creation of application protocols, elaboration of treatment strategies and protocols, stability analysis of five types of protocolized elastomeric infusors. The responsibilities of each member of the multidisciplinary team were likewise elaborated, as were complementary support, training, and research activities. Discussion: Although much work remains to be done, the creation of this type of unit is a breakthrough in providing postoperative comfort to our patients
