Resumen de Hematología y Bioquímica sanguínea de monos aulladores mexicanos

MJ. Rovirosa, F. García, JF. Lagunes, O. Merino

  • Hematological and blood biochemistry parameters are valuable tools for determining the health status of wild primate populations. Unfortunately for Mexican primates is scarcity reference information about these parameters, limiting identify the health status of different individuals in a population. The aim of this study was to determine blood chemistry and hematological values of adult females and males black howler monkeys (Alouatta pigra n=56) and mantled howler monkeys (A. palliata n=26), in order to establish reference values for these species. Individuals were located in Tabasco and Campeche states. They are anesthetized with ketamine to obtain blood samples collected by ventromedial venipuncture of the tail. The results showed statistical difference in red blood cells count, protein, fatty acid and some ions, between sexes. In conclusion, hematological and serum biochemical values obtained from both species, allows reference values useful to understanding the adaptation of howler monkeys to their habitat changing environment.
