Knowledge of genetic diversity and the relationship between maize (Zea mays L.) inbred lines is indispensable in a breeding program. Maize is a staple crop and the most important food in the Mexican diet however there is now a production deficit. The objective of this work is to select a collection of type SSRs markers related to desirable characteristics of inbred lines and analyze using SSR the genetic diversity of the original population and inbred lines. The collection of the initial population was 600 genetic materials selected for their outstanding agronomic characteristics; by the 2010 cycle were selected only 80 lines S1, which were evaluated to select genotypes that surpassed in performance landraces.
From this assessment, seven lines were derived S2, which were evaluated in this work, to continue the process of formation of inbred lines. Genetic variation shows a high polymorphism and a population distribution whit low desirable characteristics traits establishment.
