Taking into account that literary approach is recognized as one of the most traditional tendencies in literary studies as well as in the programs of basic and continuous formation of teachers, this text shows a first approach tothe history of structuralism in literature. It is possible to find supporters and opponents in its development but a historic-hermeneutic revision of the concept should show its importance in the context of the following questions: which are the contributions and the limits of the initial concepts of structuralism to new aesthetic theories? And, which is its impact in the formation of a teacher of literature?
