Emotional exhaustion is the loss of the emotional resources to deal with academics. Academic performance is an assessment, including quantitative and qualitative aspects, and that gives us a vision of the knowledge, skills, and attitudes. Target. To determine the relationship between emotional exhaustion and academic performance. Material and Methods. Cross-sectional study of correlation. Scale was applied Palm emotional exhaustion. Academic achievement (RA) was obtained from the averages of each student. Descriptive statistics with mean ± SD and percentages and 95% CI, Pearson test was used. Results. We studied 279 students, 76% female and 24% male.
The total sample had a mean of 28.03 ± 6.48 for emotional exhaustion. When comparing the averages of emotional exhaustion among undergraduate and graduate students, significant differences were found between groups (T = 2.62, p = 0.002). There were significant differences between gender and semesters. The mean RA was 8.6 ± 0.5. Was obtained r = -3.91, suggesting a low correlation between emotional exhaustion and academic performance. Conclusions. Despite being a low correlation, emotional exhaustion favors lower academic achievement in this study population.
